Temperature

MADURAI NOV.28. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 31 degree Celsius and a minimum of 22.8 degree Celsius.

Water level

The level in the Periyar dam today stood at 130.1 feet with an inflow of 678 cusecs and a discharge of 900 cusecs. The level in the Vaigai dam was 66.24 feet with an inflow of 1381 cusecs and a discharge of 2440 cusecs. The combined Periyar credit stood at 7092 mcft. Madurai recorded a rainfall of 2.5 mm, followed by Thaniyamangalam - 2mm and Kallandhiri - 1mm.

Workshop

A national workshop on achieving excellence in fundraising by hospitals and non-governmental organisations was organised by the Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre here on Saturday.

Mal Warwick, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Warwick and Associates, USA, presided over the workshop and explained how fundraising for a cause could change the world.

A press release said that Mr. Warwick, who helped several NGOs raise funds from international agencies and global institutions, emphasised the need to utilise the modern tools of communication to be more effective. `Establishing contacts and rapport with donor agencies are very crucial', he said adding that ignorance of the procedures will be a drawback in getting external funding. He dwelt at length on the methods of preparing project reports for availing funds.

The MMHRC founder-chairman, N. Sethuraman, presided over the inaugural programme.

VCDs seized

The Keerathurai police seized 5240 pirated Video Compact Discs from two persons here today.

The banned VCDs, CD players/recorders, computers, and 30 pirated audiocassettes etc. worth totally Rs. four lakhs were seized. The accused were remanded to a judicial custody, the police said.
