Temperature

TIRUCHI, NOV. 28. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 30.2 degree Celsius and a minimum of 22.6 degree Celsius.

Two killed

Two persons were killed when a speeding van rammed into a stationary lorry at Pudhuvadi Cross Road near Vaiyyampatti in the early hours today. The police gave the names of the deceased as Parthiban (35), the van driver of Udumalaipettai and Nagamanickam (31) of Pollachi.

According to sources here, the van was proceeding to Dindigul from Tiruchi when the mishap occurred.

Drowned

A Standard VIII student drowned in the swimming pool at Anna Stadium here today.

The police said Kamalesh (14) of Palakkarai was learning to swim when he drowned. The body has been sent to the Government Hospital here.

Teachers' plea

The Tamizhaga Asiriyar Kootani has urged the State to concede the teachers' demands. In a press release issued here today, its general secretary, V. Annamalai, said the demands were payment of bonus, ex-gratia and full salary for the period of suspension, revoking of suspension orders etc. It has sought an appointment with the Chief Minister, to stress the need for immediate redressal of their grievances.

Elected

The following persons were elected district office-bearers of the Tamizhaga Asiriyar Kootani: N. Sait (president), T.R. Saminathan (vice-president), P. Jeeva (secretary) A. Masilamani (deputy secretary), A. Kaliyamurthy (treasurer) and A. Sathayee (women's wing secretary).

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur dam stood at 102.22 feet today. The inflow was 4,015 cusecs and the discharge 6,707 cusecs.
