Break down barriers of segregation: Speaker

By Our Staff Reporter

ALUVA, NOV. 28. The Speaker, Therambil Ramakrishnan, today called upon the people to break down barriers of segregation within one's mind. We should rise above parochial thinking to embrace all sections and communities of people as one nation, he said.

Mr. Ramakrishan was speaking after inaugurating a cultural meeting at Thattampadi, near Aluva. The meeting was organised by the Nehru Yuva Kendra in connection with a Jammu and Kashmir Rural Youth Culture Exchange Programme, `Kashmiram'.

Thirty-six youngsters from Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir are currently here on a week-long visit to the State. They are being hosted by the families of Manakkappadi in Karumalloor panchayat.

Welcoming the team from "the paradise on earth to God's own country," the Speaker said we should inculcate a feeling of patriotism in that we belonged to one nation called India. "We must demolish the boundaries in our minds," he said.

The Speaker said the decision to divide India was wrong. We are trying to build new walls even when the present generation is demolishing the Berlin Wall, he said.

Support of Keralites

Presiding over the function, V.D. Satisan, MLA, assured the Kashmiri people of the moral support of Keralites in their fight against insurgency and terrorism.

Welcoming the gathering, S. Sateesh, regional coordinator of the Nehru Yuva Kendra, said, "we don't have a beautiful land as yours; but we have a beautiful heart to receive you. We believe in `Aditi devo bhava."

Those who addressed the gathering included A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, Ernakulam District Collector; Wali Mohammed Lone, Kupwara district coordinator of Nehru Yuva Kendra; K.K. Sajita, president of Karumalloor grama panchayat; and T.S. Sreekumar, president of Swaraj Cultural Society, which coordinated the programme at the local level.
