Anantapur
By Our Staff Reporter
ANANTAPUR, NOV. 29. The Anantapur MP, A. Venkatarami Reddy, has alleged that the previous TDP Government created confusion among unemployed youth by introducing the contract system in all departments. Speaking at the Rayalaseema zone meeting of the Government College Contract Lecturers Association (GCCTA) here on Sunday, he said the issue would be brought to the notice of the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Rao.
No job security
The State president of the association, K. Nageswara Rao, expressed concern over lack of job security as the contract posts had become highly vulnerable. Contract lecturers were also unable to do justice to the students as they were being asked to complete the syllabus in five months. The State general secretary, E. Radha, said they were being harassed by the principals and non-teaching staff of the colleges concerned. She alleged that the Congress had forgotten its pre-poll promise of regularising contract lecturers. The former CPI legislator, K. Ramakrishna, said the previous Government had introduced the contract lecturers system as part of its privatisation plans. G. Obulakonda Reddy and Y. Visveswar Reddy of CPI(M) said contract lecturers were working in rural areas, where permanent employees were unwilling to work.
Plea to Government
The district president of the association, K. Pratap, urged the Government to fix basic pay for the lecturers, regularise them, implement the facility of renewal and holidays as being done in APRJC and APTWC colleges and show alternative employment, if removed mid-way.
