PONDICHERRY, NOV. 29. The Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, said today that the Administration had sanctioned a subsidy of Rs. 40,000 each to the 7,500 poor families living in huts to enable them to construct concrete structures. The next batch of beneficiaries would be issued forms by the Departments and Slum Clearance Board on December 1. Distributing house site pattas to a batch of 53 families at Maduvupet in the Lawspet Assembly constituency here today, the Chief Minister said the subsidy for housing was provided as part of implementation of the Perunthalaivar Centenary Housing Scheme. The Department of Adi Dravidar Welfare, the Slum Clearance Board and a few other departments were operating the scheme. Within the next few years, Pondicherry would be hut-free. The chairman of the Pondicherry State Wakf Board and local legislator, M.O.H.F. Shah Jahan, was among those present. The Department of Survey and Land Records made the pattas available.
