JAIPUR, NOV. 29. The Rajasthan Government's high-level committee on water resources today announced that the participation of voluntary organisations in water management and implementation of various schemes in the water sector would be promoted in the State on a regular basis. The committee's convenor and noted economist, V.S. Vyas, said the State Government would take up works relating to development of water sector and effective utilisation of water in association with the voluntary bodies. "This approach is in consonance with the State's traditions of social responsibility for maintenance of water resources,'' he said. The Irrigation Secretary, S.N. Thanvi, addressing the committee's meeting here, expressed the hope that the voluntary organisations would play a meaningful role in water management and help achieve the goals of people's participation in the Government's functioning. The experts attending the meeting deliberated on the ways for ensuring better coordination between the Government and people and identified the areas in water sector needing cooperation.
