NEW DELHI, NOV.29. The Union Minister for Water Resources, Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi, will inaugurate a one-day national seminar here this coming Wednesday on "Interlinking of rivers in India", organised by Sathyabama Deemed University of Tamil Nadu. The Chancellor of the University, Jeppiaar, told newspersons here today that the purpose of the seminar was to create awareness among the people about the importance of interlinking rivers. He said the Union Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation, Oscar Fernandes, would deliver a special address at the seminar. He said the university had involved in this ambitious project and had plans to conduct seminars in various parts of the country. The Secretary-General of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage, M. Gopalakrishnan, said he was earlier associated with the Task Force set up by the former Government at the Centre. He wanted the present Government to continue the work done by the Task Force and earnestly implement the project. Former Chairman of the All-India Council for Technical Education, S. Rame Gowda, and the University Dean, N. Manoharan, highlighted the significance of the seminar.
