Violin recital
Dr. Subramaniam started the concert with "Ganesh Stuti" followed by various evening ragas. Sitar maestro Pandit Debu Chaudhuri, shehnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan and vocalist Shubha Mudgal have also given performances under this series. The next concert will be held on December 5 in which flautist Hari Prasad Chaurasiya will perform. The underlying purpose behind organising the event is to take Indian art and culture to the general public where they too can participate.
German scholar honoured
The ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Heimo Richer, presided over the function in which prominent Hindi writer, Namvar Singh, was also present. Dr. Singhvi remembered the contribution of Germans in the study of spirituality and highlighted the importance of spirituality in the context of life's philosophy.
Bank helps women groups
According to a press release from the Bank, a total of 788,728 people have benefited so far under the scheme, which started in 1989. Several below-poverty-line families have become self-reliant and some of them had even become entrepreneurs. At the recent India International Trade Fair in the Capital, several families who had become economically sound had put up 35 stalls and goods worth over Rs. 25 lakhs were sold at the fair. The Chairman of the Bank, M.P.N. Rao, visited these stalls and assured the self-help groups that the bank would continue to extend financial assistance to them in all their ventures.

The ambassador of Somalia, J.C. Ibanez, and the Cuban ambassador, Hatem, were also present on the occasion.
