BHOPAL, NOV. 30. Around 20 persons were taken to hospital on Monday night after inhaling chlorine gas fumes from a leaking cylinder inside the premises of Security Papers Mill (SPM) in Hoshangabad. Inquiries revealed that three girls were still in hospital today with symptoms of nausea and burning sensation in the eyes while the others had been discharged. The three Monica Naik, Uma Ramaria and Rajshri Pardesi resided in G-type quarters within the mill premises. The paper mill produces bank notes and other security papers. Its general manager, Ashwini Kumar said a chlorine cylinder in the electrical store area of the Central Public Works Department inside the SPM premises had developed a leak last night and some persons living in the residential area right across felt a burning sensation in their eyes. The area was evacuated as a precaution and chlorine cylinders lying abandoned in the CPWD store were dipped in limewater and neutralised.
