Karamjit looks to assert his supremacy

MUMBAI, NOV. 30. Asia Pacific Rally champion Karamjit Singh, sponsored by JK Tyres, will look to assert his supremacy during the India leg of Asia Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) at Pune from December 3 to 5. The Malaysian ace and his co-driver Allen Oh with the Petronas Racing Team is the undisputed leader with 59 points. FIA has already confirmed him as the 2004 APRC champion after the fifth round at Huizhou, China.

The Singh-Oh duo finished second at the Rally of China, behind Taguchi Katsuhiko/Mark Stacey (MRF Tyres), but increased the lead by 11 points. Armin Kremer (MRF Tyres) is second with 48 points. The best five APRC results are taken into consideration to determine the overall champion. The Malaysian, a part of JK Tyres since 1999, is well placed to bag the highest honour with three victories so far (Australia, New Zealand and Japan) on the 2004 APRC circuit and a second place finish. He retired due to an engine failure at the New Caledonia event.

Karamjit and the Petronas Racing Team appeared on the world stage in 2002, competing in the FIA Production Car World Rally Championship, recording his second back-to-back Asia Pacific overall title as well as FIA Production Car Championship. Allen Oh, his co-driver has been with Proton Pert since 1990. Talking about JK Tyres' association with the Malaysian ace, Sanjay Sharma, Head of Motor Sports, said: "Last year we won the India leg and look forward to a strong result this year, even though Karamjit and Allen have sealed the overall title." — Our Special Correspondent
