RAICHUR, NOV. 30. M.R. Tanga, MLC and leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, has said that the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, has promised to protect the interest of the ayacutdars in the command areas of the Tungabhadra Left Bank Canal (TLBC) and take steps to ensure water supply in the canal for sowing of summer crops. Talking to The Hindu over telephone from Bangalore on Tuesday, Mr. Tanga said that the Chief Minister had assured a delegation, which met him in Bangalore demanding water supply for sowing summer crops, that the concerns of the farmers in the command areas would be addressed. He said that the delegation apprised the Chief Minister that the officials of the Water Resources Department been negligent in recording the storage level in the reservoir and ensuring water supply in the TLBC during the kharif season. He said that the Chief Minister had assured the delegation that the interests of the farmers would be protected and steps would be initiated to maintain water supply in the canal for sowing summer crops.
