Maternity leave period increased

By Our Special Correspondent

JAIPUR, NOV. 30. The Rajasthan Government has increased the maternity leave period for its employees from 120 to 135 days and allowed the male employees to take 15 days' break from work as paternity leave. Both the leaves will be provided on the birth of only two children.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the State Cabinet, presided over by the Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje, here on Monday evening. The Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Rajendra Singh Rathore, said after the meeting that the Cabinet also took some important decisions on employees' promotion and recruitment age for doctors from non-allopathic streams.

The Cabinet decided to change the service rules to adopt seniority as the criteria for promotions at all levels except in case of heads of departments, for whom merit would be taken into consideration.

Mr. Rathore said the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (Ministerial and Subordinate Services) Rules and Sub Rules, 1999, and the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (Gazzetted Staff) Rules and Sub Rules, 1991, would be amended for the purpose. The State Governemnt's Law Department has vetted two notifications in this regard after getting consent of the Commission.

The Cabinet's decision to give promotions to officials at the highest level on the basis of merit came only a day before the appointment of the new Director General of Police, A.S. Gill. Mr. Gill has superseded three other officers of his rank.

The Cabinet also decided to increase the recruitment age for Ayurvedic, homoeopathic, Unani and naturopathy doctors from 35 to 45 years.

The service rules for these doctors will be suitably amended bringing about an upward revision in the maximum age limit.
