IT should benefit common man, says YSR

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, NOV. 30. Information technology should benefit the common man in every sphere of life and enable a person living in a remote village to get the right medical opinion and help a farmer know where his produce would get the best price, the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said. The State Government was committed to make this a reality, he added.

He was inaugurating the new building of the Andhra Mahila Sabha School of Informatics in the Durgabai Deshmukh campus here on Tuesday. C. Lakshmanna, chairman, governing body of AMSSOI, presided.

Cites strides in IT

The Chief Minister referred to the strides taken by the State in the field of IT and said efforts would be made to ensure that everyone benefited from information technology and e-governance. Dr. Reddy complimented the AMS for imparting knowledge to students in the IT field. But it was important for one to excel in whatever one did, as this was a competitive world, the Chief Minister said.

He paid tributes to Durgabai Deshmukh and said she had dedicated her life for the empowerment of women. He wanted the bias towards the girl child to change and said that girls were in no way inferior to boys and were now competing with them in every field.

In this connection, he referred to the proposed insurance scheme for the girl child. An amount of Rs. 1 lakh would be deposited in the girl's name and she would get it after attaining the age of 20.

`Fill vacancies'

The scheme was for parents having only one girl child, the Chief Minister said. Akkamma Krishnamurthy, president, AMS Trust Board, appealed to the Chief Minister to immediately fill the vacancies of teachers in the aided school run by the AMS, as the school catered to the needs of children coming from backward areas. Earlier, K. Lokender Rao, secretary, AMSSOI, welcomed the gathering. Shaukat Ali Mirza, director, AMSSOI, proposed a vote of thanks.
