Congress forms panel to oversee poll process

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, NOV. 30. The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has appointed 14 senior leaders to oversee the process of sealing the membership books and winding up the membership drive in the run up to holding organisation elections.

In a statement today, the KPCC general secretary, Mullappally Ramachandran, who is in charge of organisational elections, said that certain changes had been made following the decision to extend the date for enrolment of members by 15 days. Accordingly, the membership sealing would begin on December 3 in all districts. The authorised leaders would entrust the membership list and fee to the KPCC on December 7.

The following are the leaders deputed to the various districts: K.P. Nooruddin -Thiruvananthapuram, M.K. Raghavan - Kollam, K.C. Kadambooran - Pathanamthitta, K.P. Kunhikannan - Kottayam, Phillipose Thomas - Idukki, M.T. Thomas - Alapuzha, Jameela Ibrahim - Ernakulam, A.V. Gopinath - Thrissur, Thalekunnil Basheer - Palakkad, K.C. Rajan - Malappuram, K.C. Rosakutty Teacher - Kozhikode, Ajay Tharayil - Wayanad, Joseph Vazhakkan - Kannur and K. Sudhakaran - Kasaragod.

Mr. Ramachandran said that the list of primary members would be published on December 9 and displayed in the Congress mandalam committee offices. Objections, if any, should be filed before the District Scrutiny Committee by December 12. The five-member monitoring committee would function as the scrutiny committee. The committees should complete its work by December 13. The appeal against the verdict of the scrutiny committees should reach the KPCC before December 17. The appeals received by the KPCC would be disposed of by December 22.

All appeal petitions against the KPCC decisions should be submitted to the AICC-appointed Election Authority before January 1, 2005. The authority would deliver its verdict by January 8.
