HYDERABAD, NOV. 30. The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has urged Congress MPs to bring pressure on the Centre to give clearances for irrigation projects on a war-footing. He said efforts should be made to secure maximum Central funds, adding that other windows could be explored to secure loans. Addressing a meeting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members from the State on Tuesday, Dr. Reddy asked them to confine their activity in New Delhi to seeking clearances. The party had included completion of pending projects in the manifesto, hence every MP should work towards the goal, he said.
Lists `priorities'
Dr. Reddy furnished the MPs with details of his irrigation priorities and the tender policy adopted to deflect criticism from any quarter. The other priorities listed by him were hike in minimum support price for paddy and cotton, more drought relief measures, IIT at Basar, a common approach to the problem of naxalism and more old-age and widow pensions. The Chief Minister expressed happiness at the increased flow of rural credit which had benefited an additional four lakh farmers in the State. Rajya Sabha member, Jairam Ramesh, suggested inclusion of Pulichintala under Central projects to the pave way for securing faster clearances. The Government is yet to formalise this proposal. The MPs were confident that the irrigation projects would be completed in five years as promised because of the focussed attention of the Government and assured the Chief Minister of cooperation.
Appointment hailed
The appointment of Mallu Ravi as a special representative in New Delhi to coordinate the process and that of the special secretary to interact with officials on this count were welcomed.
