By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, NOV. 30 . The Peroorkada police are investigating a 28-year-old autorickshaw driver on the charge of attempting to kidnap a 17-year-old girl studying for Plus I in a city school.

The Circle Inspector (CI), Peroorkada, M. Radhakrishnan, identified the suspect as `Aruvikkara' Joy.

The CI said the girl had hired the autorickshaw for a short trip to Nanthancode from her school on Monday afternoon. The driver took a detour saying that the road to Nanthancode was blocked.

The girl panicked and jumped out of the autorickshaw near the Golf Club. She sustained minor injuries and had to be hospitalised.

Two arrested

The Kazhakottam police have arrested two youths in connection with a series of break-ins at houses in the Kazhakottam and Keraladityapuram areas early this year.

They were produced before the court and remanded to 14 days judicial custody.

Pedestrian killed

A 65-year-old man was killed when he was knocked down by an unidentified vehicle in front of the Income Tax office at Kowdiar in the early hours of Tuesday.

The police identified the deceased as Arjun of Winner Nagar in Vazhayila.
