SINGAPORE, DEC. 1. The India-ASEAN (Association of South-East Asian Nations) car rally, a politically symbolic and non-competitive event, evoked an enthusiastic response in Vietnam today. A total of 60 cars with some 250 participants, entered Vietnam from Laos through the border check-post of Lao Bao. They received a fast-track immigration-clearance in a "seamless fashion," sources monitoring the event said. The rally, which began from north-east India, was flagged off in the Laotian capital, Vientiane, by the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, and the 10 ASEAN leaders on Tuesday. The goodwill event has been designed to turn the spotlight on India's capabilities in various sectors, ranging from industry to sports. Those who received the participants at the Vietnamese border check-post today included the country's Deputy Minister for Tourism, Pham Tu, and India's Ambassador to Vietnam, N. Ravi.
