NALGONDA, DEC. 1. The Telugu Desam vice-president, Gutta Sukhender Reddy, has decided to emulate the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, in registering protest against the "inordinate delay'' in grounding works of pending projects. Recalling Dr. Reddy's exercise of planting saplings near the plaques of various projects as Opposition leader, Mr. Sukhender Reddy told reporters on Wednesday that he would do the same from January next. "Bhoomi poojas are being performed at a feverish pace, but works are not being taken up. Hence, I have decided to plant saplings beside the foundation stones laid by Dr. Reddy,'' he added.
Sapling besides stone
The TDP leader said he planned to plant the first sapling at Narketpally where the Chief Minister had laid the foundation stone for Dharmareddipalli canal in January if the Government failed to ground works immediately. He took objection to the delay in the land acquisition process related to the Alimineti Madhava Reddy project. ``Some 10,000 acres are to be acquired. But officials say that they cannot acquire more than 750 acres per year. Given the fact, it will take ages to complete the project,'' Mr. Sukhender Reddy maintained. Criticising Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy for what he called his failure to get administrative sanction for the SLBC canal works, Mr. Sukhender Reddy alleged that the Government was trying to blame the Telugu Desam for the delay in commencing the works. He also refuted the allegation made by the Revenue Minister, Dharmana Prasada Rao, that the TDP was responsible for the mess in the revenue set-up.
