Uma Bharti meets Advani

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, DEC. 1. Amid speculation that she might return to the party-fold, the suspended BJP leader, Uma Bharati, tonight had a meeting with the party president, L.K. Advani, here.

The meeting lasted 45 minutes and she left the BJP chief's residence without talking to waiting mediapersons.

In fact, Ms. Bharti chose to use an exit other than where the mediapersons were waiting.

The meeting with Mr. Advani assumed significance in view of the BJP chief's remarks in Ranchi last week that he will hold talks with her on her return to the party-fold.

It came a day after her talks with the former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Ms. Bharti claimed today that she did not discuss politics with Mr. Vajpayee yesterday and had gone to his house for dinner.

Ms. Bharti was suspended on November 10 after she locked horns with the top party leadership in full media glare and dared them to take disciplinary action against her.

However, subsequently she has been making efforts at rapprochement with the help of some intermediaries close to the RSS. — PTI
