Cable subscribers to pay Rs. 14 more
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
DEC. 1.
Cable subscribers will have to pay up to Rs. 14 more a month from January, according to a directive issued today by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). This will be the first increase since the Government announced a freeze in rates in December last year. The next review will take place around the same time next year.
A TRAI analysis fixed the rate of inflation over the past one year at 7 per cent. It accordingly decided to raise the rates by an equal amount (excluding taxes) and stipulated that Rs. 14 would be the maximum possible increase to the basic charges. The new rates will apply for the payments to be made by consumers, cable operators and multi-system operators.
