Give up communal agenda: Vasan

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, DEC. 1. The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president, G.K. Vasan, has urged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to give up its "communal agenda" and try to function as a "constructive opposition" as people are fed up with unnecessary political controversies.

In a statement here, he said L.K. Advani, after becoming BJP president, announced that defending Hindu ethos and the basic tenets of Hinduism would be the party's goal. Mr. Advani was frequently visiting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Singh (RSS) headquarters for consultations with its leaders, besides receiving orders from them, Mr. Vasan claimed.

The BJP leadership owed an explanation to the people whether it wanted to make the minorities second class citizens.

The party was unable to offer policies acceptable to the people, Mr. Vasan said.
