Six ships to take part in Navy Day celebrations

By Our Staff Correspondent

MANGALORE, DEC. 2. Four naval and two Coast Guard ships will take part in the Navy Day celebrations to be held off the Panambur coast near here on December 10, the naval officer-in-charge (Karnataka), Kushal Dang, has said.

Captain Dang told presspersons here today that the Navy was greatly enthused by the response to the celebrations last year, he said this year's display would be bigger, so that more people could witness it. However, the `family day out at sea' had been cancelled this year.

Referring to the programme, he said INS Sharada and INS Jamuna (offshore patrol vessels), INS Malpe and INS Mahe (inshore minesweepers) and an Indian Naval Survey Ship would call on New Mangalore Port and would be open to visitors between 8.30 a.m. and noon on December 10.

The operational display at Panambur beach would be held between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. This would include a display by naval divers, aerobatics, gunfire by naval ships and fireworks.
