PATNA, DEC. 2. Jamaat-e-Islami will launch a national awareness campaign for human rights beginning tomorrow focusing on demands to enact separate legislations for prevention of riots and genocides as well as the debated right to livelihood. Addressing a press conference here today, national secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana Mahammad Rafiq Quasmi said that during the nine-day campaign, efforts would be made to convey the message of human rights to 10 crore people, door-to-door campaign covering another 10 lakh would be undertaken and 10,000 youths would be enrolled as human rights activists. Jamaat-e-Islami would launch a signature campaign in support of a four point charter of demands incorporating enactment of legislation to stop riots, right to food and delivery of quick justice, the Maulana added. During the campaign, Jamaat would organise meetings, seminars and symposia and undertake postering, he said adding special programmes would mark the celebration of 'world human rights day' on December 10 and 'women's rights day' on December five. Mr Quasmi noted that 30 crore Indians were living below the poverty line, 40 crore still were illiterate and 1.70 lakh undertrials were languishing in jails. He emphasised the need of intensifying the campaign for promoting human dignity and protecting human rights.
