THRISSUR, DEC. 2. Alappuzha and Kasargod entered the quarterfinals in men's section in the 49th State senior basketball championship at the Veterinary College courts here on Thursday. Alappuzha topped pool `C' after it crushed Kannur 63-27 and qualified. Kasargod overcame Kollam 70-52 to become pool `D' winner and qualified for the quarterfinals. In women's section, Ernakulam increased its chances of entering the semifinals by recording two wins in pool `B'. Ernakulam scored an easy 53-27 win over Thrissur and later overcame Kozhikode 48-34 to brighten its chances.
Men: Alappuzha 63 (Charles Solomon 12) bt Kannur 27 (Jasim 11, Deeji Sebastian 10); Kasargod 70 (Shibu 30, Vijith 18, Gopalakrishnan 13) bt Kollam 52 (Rajesh 13); Palakkad 59 (Ajeesh 23, Shyam 20) bt Kottyam 48 (Monish Wilson 17, E.S. Dibumon 12).
Women: Ernakulam 53 (Cimi Jose Kavalakkat 16, Anu Cherian 13) bt Thrissur 27 (Lissa Rani 11); Thiruvananthapuram 65 (P. Lajitha 23, Ambili Thomas 18) bt Alappuzha 44 (Sonia Joseph 20, S.S. Anjana 14); Ernakulam 48 (Dhanya Devasia 16, Cimi Jose Kavalakkat 13) bt Kozhikode 34 (Simi Subramanium 10).
