Alappuzha in quarterfinals

THRISSUR, DEC. 2. Alappuzha and Kasargod entered the quarterfinals in men's section in the 49th State senior basketball championship at the Veterinary College courts here on Thursday.

Alappuzha topped pool `C' after it crushed Kannur 63-27 and qualified. Kasargod overcame Kollam 70-52 to become pool `D' winner and qualified for the quarterfinals. In women's section, Ernakulam increased its chances of entering the semifinals by recording two wins in pool `B'. Ernakulam scored an easy 53-27 win over Thrissur and later overcame Kozhikode 48-34 to brighten its chances.

The results:

Men: Alappuzha 63 (Charles Solomon 12) bt Kannur 27 (Jasim 11, Deeji Sebastian 10); Kasargod 70 (Shibu 30, Vijith 18, Gopalakrishnan 13) bt Kollam 52 (Rajesh 13); Palakkad 59 (Ajeesh 23, Shyam 20) bt Kottyam 48 (Monish Wilson 17, E.S. Dibumon 12).

Women: Ernakulam 53 (Cimi Jose Kavalakkat 16, Anu Cherian 13) bt Thrissur 27 (Lissa Rani 11); Thiruvananthapuram 65 (P. Lajitha 23, Ambili Thomas 18) bt Alappuzha 44 (Sonia Joseph 20, S.S. Anjana 14); Ernakulam 48 (Dhanya Devasia 16, Cimi Jose Kavalakkat 13) bt Kozhikode 34 (Simi Subramanium 10).
