SUCHETGARH, DEC. 2. Senior commanders of the Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers met here today and reached an agreement to delegate powers to the area commanders to make a ground assessment and resolve a border dispute. For the past five months, a piece of land had been a bone of contention between the two sides on the International Border. The dispute began when the Army de-mined the Samba sector early this year and the BSF took back into its possession land for about 30 to 40 metres in Galarad area. The Pakistan Rangers called it a violation and lodged a complaint. The Indian side complained of an attack on BSF men by armed intruders at Mangu Chak on August 16 in which the local company commander and his squad had a narrow escape. The BSF believed that the firing was by militants trying to enter Indian territory with the help of the Pakistan Rangers. In response to this, the Pakistan side alleged that the BSF had violated the International Border "by illegally occupying their land in [the] Samba sector."
