Bellary stuns Kodagu

MYSORE, DEC. 2. A match-winning goal by right-out Mahima (65th minute) helped dark-horses Bellary register a narrow 1-0 win over defending champion Kodagu in the girls section and entered the semifinals of the State-level PU colleges hockey tournament, conducted by the PU Board at the University grounds, here on Thursday.

In the men's section, Bellary and Tumkur registered contrasting wins over Udupi (5-0) and Gulbarga (3-2) respectively to enter the semifinals.

The results:

Girls: Quarterfinals: Bellary bt Kodagu 1-0 (HT 0-0); Bangalore South bt Bijapur 8-0 (ht 5-0). Pre-quarterfinals: Bangalore (North) bt Dharwad 9-0; Bellary bt Mandya 6-0; Kodagu bt Bidar 4-0; Bagalkot bt Bangalore (R) 5-0.

Boys: Quarterfinals: Tumkur bt Gulbarga 3-2 ; Bellary bt Udupi 5-0. Pre-quarterfinals: Madikeri bt Raichur 4-0; Bangalore (N) bt Gadag 6-1; Tumkur bt Mandya 4-2; Gulbarga bt Mysore 4-2; Udupi bt Bagalkot 4-3 (tie-breaker); Dakshina Kannada bt Bangalore (R) 3-0; Bellary bt Belgaum 3-0.
