HYDERABAD, DEC. 2. With December 9 being observed as International Anti-Corruption Day, Lok Satta, one of the country's largest non-political parties, has embarked upon a week-long campaign to create awareness about corruption throughout the State from December 3. Addressing the media here on Thursday, the Lok Satta convenor, Jayaprakash Narayan, said the primary focus of the campaign would be on boosting the confidence of common people, students and youth that there were specific and clear solutions to root out corruption. The key elements of the communication campaign would be to highlight solutions to some of the `most pressing problems' rooted in corruption, Mr. Narayan said. These included systemic electoral reforms, transparency in functioning, accountability of functionaries and Right to Information for the citizens to do away with the sordidness in governance, citizen's charters to deal with the vice in government departments and citizen awareness and people's participation to enact anti-corruption laws among others.
Main feature
The main feature of the campaign, after the call given by the Satta to organise `fight against corruption' programmes in every village, mandal and city of the State on December 9, would anti-corruption walks of one or two km each in every city, town and village. There would be special programmes for students from December 3 to 9, including essay-writing and elocution competitions in various schools and colleges. `No corruption in our lives' would be the underlying theme for these student-related activities, he said. Those who wanted clarifications related to the campaign could contact Lok Satta at 23350778, 23350790 and 23352487, he added.
