Rejina retracts charge against Ajitha

By Our Special Correspondent

Rejina, main witness in the Kozhikode ice-cream parlour sex scandal case, speaking to presspersons in front of the office of a television channel in Kozhikode on Thursday.

KOZHIKODE, DEC. 2. Rejina, key witness in the ice-cream parlour sex scandal case, has retracted her allegation that the social activist K. Ajitha had instigated her to make allegations of sexual exploitation against the Industries Minister, P.K. Kunhalikutty.

She told reporters today that three persons had instigated her to say that it was Ms. Ajitha who prompted her to make the accusation against the Minister. Rejina did not identify them at first. But later, she said her mother is one among them.

Rejina went to the office of a TV channel and asked a group of presspersons who gathered there to put questions to her. Later, talking to them on the road outside the office, Rejina said everybody, including her mother, had abandoned her. All her husband wanted was her money, she said.

After a TV channel beamed visuals of the house she was building at Paniankara, she was being laughed at. Her house is referred to as the "ice- cream house'', she said.

Real enemies

"The Minister's real enemies are his own relatives," she said.

On November 4, Rejina had appeared before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in a case in which she was charged with attempt to commit suicide. While leaving the court, she kept shouting that it was Ms. Ajitha who had persuaded her make the accusation against the Minister. That day, she handed over to the court copy of a letter that reportedly said that Ms. Ajitha had prompted her to make the allegation against Mr. Kunhalikutty and prayed for withdrawal of the police from her house.

In the first statement she had made before the Magistrate court in the ice- cream parlour sex scandal case a few years ago, Rejina had not named Industries Minister in the list of accused.
