Power shutdown

MANGALORE DEC. 2. Power supply to Gangoli town and adjoining areas in Udupi district will be affected between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday. A press release from Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd. here says the shutdown is to allow work on a line to Gangoli from Tallur power distribution centre.

BSNL offer

MANGALORE DEC. 2. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) has introduced a new plan for Direct Internet Service (DIAS) subscribers, Plan 0, according to a press release. According to this plan, subscribers have to pay Rs. 1,000 as non-refundable activation charge and a monthly rental of Rs. 450.

The tariff for existing three plans is also being rationalised.

Ritual

MANGALORE DEC. 2. A Sri Lalitha Sahahsranama Koti Archana programme has commenced on Wednesday at Sharada Sannidi, Chinmaya Mission, Hoige Bazaar, according to a press release.

The president of Chinmaya Mission, Bangalore, Kudupi Vamana Shenoy, inaugurated the programme. The archana is performed at 9 a.m. daily and the Lalitha Homa will be conducted on December 15, the release stated.

Workshop

MANGALORE DEC. 2. The Karnataka State Safety Institute and the Department of Factories and Boilers here will hold Chemical Disaster Prevention Day on Friday. As part of this programme, a workshop on "Plant safety and emergency preparedness in hazardous industries" has been organised at Taj Manjarun hotel.

According to the senior assistant director of department, Parthasarathy, the district was fully prepared for any eventuality and under the Disaster Management Plan (DMP), charts showing routes of evacuation, core area of disaster impact, population of this area, sites susceptible to major accident hazards, chemical storage and toxic material storage areas have been prepared. On Saturday, there will be a safety drill at MCF.

TAPMI event

Manipal Dec. 2. The T.A. Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) will hold Atharva, the institute's annual inter business-school management festival, here from December 3 to 5.

A press release here on Thursday said the events to be held during the festival were Brouhaha, Quiz on the beach, Sankalp and The young business leader contest. Brouhaha was being conducted in association with Channel [V]. The quiz would be open to corporate participants. Sankalp, a business plan formulation contest, has received a record 226 entries this time.
