THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, DEC. 2. Portions of the roof and walls of the Lower Primary School, Moovelikkara, a private management institution at Vellarada in the district, collapsed at 1.45 p.m. today, injuring 24 children and three teachers.
Out of danger
The children were rushed to the Dr. Somervel Memorial Medical College, Karakonam, and one of the teachers, Mini, was brought to the medical college hospital here for a CT scan. The condition of none of them is serious. Six children who sustained injuries on the head were admitted to the paediatric ICU of the hospital. Their condition has since improved, according to the hospital authorities. The other children admitted to the wards, were also keeping fine and there was no room for concern, they said.
Tragedy averted
Since the incident occurred during the lunch recess, there were not many children in the classrooms. A major tragedy thus was averted. The Minister for Education, E.T. Mohammed Basheer, and the Deputy Speaker, N. Sundaran Nadar, called on the children and the teachers at the Karakonam hospital. The Minister also called on the teacher admitted to the medical college hospital here.
