Film industry re-starts activities

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, DEC. 2. The Kannada film industry resumed its filmmaking activities on Thursday amid confusion and anxiety. With no other alternative, it is awaiting the Government's invitation for talks.

On Monday, the industry had declared an indefinite production holiday until all film-related issues, including the three-week moratorium and the violation of the norm for the release of new non-Kannada films stipulated by the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, were sorted out.

On Tuesday, it had announced an indefinite relay hunger strike would be observed by thespian Rajkumar in front of Cauvery cinema, which had screened the Hindi film, Veer-Zaara, in violation of norms.

However, the same day the industry formed a 15-member "emergency task force" to solve its problems.

A delegation of the task force met the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, and told him about the purpose of forming the task force and sought the Government's cooperation.

Reportedly on the advice of Mr. Dharam Singh, it was decided to defer the proposed hunger strike.
