Misty morning

NEW DELHI DEC. 2. A misty morning will greet Delhiites on Friday, with the sky turning partially cloudy towards the afternoon/evening. The minimum temperature would hover around 11 degree Celsius.

While Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 27.9 degree Celsius and a minimum of 12.2 degree Celsius, at Palam the maximum and minimum temperatures were 27.6 degree Celsius and 13.5 degree Celsius respectively.

While the maximum and minimum humidity recorded at Safdarjung was 86 per cent and 36 per cent respectively, Palam recorded a maximum humidity of 78 per cent and a minimum of 35 per cent.

Boy dead

New Delhi Dec 2. A four-year-old boy died after falling into a broken pipeline in a north Delhi area today, police said. Rohit was playing with his three-year-old sibling Mohit near his house in Majnu ka Tilla area when he fell into the water pipeline this morning.

Mohit ran to inform his parents who called police. Rohit was taken out from the pipeline in a state of severe trauma and was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced brought dead, police said.

In another incident, the body of an 11-year-old girl was found in a park in Shahdara in east Delhi this morning.

The body bore strangulation marks and a murder case had been registered, police said.

Cop held for graft

NEW DELHI DEC. 2. A Delhi police constable has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Delhi Government for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe from a roadside vendor to allow him to continue with his business at Nangloi in West Delhi on Wednesday.

According to the police, Santosh Kumar Jha, a resident of Nihal Vihar in Nangloi, used to sell eggs on his cart adjacent to a liquor shop. Constable Naresh Kumar, posted at Nihal Vihar police post in Nangloi, was allegedly harassing him for the past few days and demanding money for allowing him to continue.

Santosh complained to the ACB about the Constable. The ACB laid a trap yesterday and arrested Naresh when he was allegedly accepting Rs. 500 from the complaint.

Naresh has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigations in the case are on.

Car thieves held

NEW DELHI DEC. 2. Two persons have been arrested by the North Delhi police for allegedly stealing a car. According to the police, a Maruti 800 car was stopped at a check-point near Metro station at Kashmere Gate in North Delhi on Wednesday around 2-30 p.m. The occupants of the car, identified as Ashok Kumar and Mukesh Kumar, could not produce the genuine documents and were detained for questioning. They allegedly confessed to having stolen the car from R.K. Puram in South-West Delhi sometime ago and that they were on their way to Jama Masjid in North Delhi to dispose of the car.

The police said both the accused had committed the theft for the first time and have no previous criminal record.

Fake `Ujala' seized

NEW DELHI DEC. 2. Duplicate liquid blue worth lakhs of rupees, being sold in the name of "Ujala" -- a product of Jyothi Laboratories Limited -- has been seized from a factory at Faridabad in Haryana. The local police also helped in the operation.

According to a press release, the fake consignment was seized from a factory near Negi Properties at SGM Nagar in Faridabad.
