PONDICHERRY, DEC. 3. The Lt. Governor, M.M. Lakhera, has called upon education planners to ensure that the system turns out students who can face future challenges and measure up to the emerging technologies. Inaugurating a national seminar on "Revitalising professional preparation of teacher educators," organised by the Pope John Paul II College of Education here today, he said the system of education should be redefined and reoriented in keeping with future requirements.
Outdated strategies
"Let us not concentrate on strategies or technologies that have become outdated." A sense of belonging to the nation should be imbibed by the youth. The teachers had to ensure that students took pride in the rich heritage of their country. The process of revitalisation of educational planning was absolutely necessary as the country was at a crossroads considering the virtual erosion of character over the years, Mr. Lakhera said. He received a manual relating to the conference released by the Principal of the College, Rev. Fr. J. Paul, who referred to the debate on educational reforms. Cyce, French Professor, touched upon the themes selected for the seminar and said the participants would present papers on the professional preparation of teacher education.
