NEW DELHI, DEC. 3 . The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Kalyan Singh, today asserted that the demolition of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992 "was an act of God" and he had "no regrets, no repentance, no sorrow and grief." Deposing for the first time in 12 years before the Liberhan Commission, Mr. Singh said: "The act of demolition was the self-generated public resentment and outburst of the crushed feelings of the masses for centuries. "Historians will write that the devotees of Ram, devotees of the nation had demolished the symbol of slavery and disgrace, though this demolition was not expected. It was purely sudden and totally unplanned." Mr. Singh said he was not present at the site on the demolition day. He had no role, either direct or indirect, in the demolition.
