TUMKUR, DEC. 4. Two persons were killed and five others grievously injured when an autorickshaw in which they were coming down the Devaraynadurga Hills near here, fell into a roadside pit on Saturday afternoon. The police said the vehicle (KA 06 9094), driven by Lokesh of Upparahalli, was hired by some people to visit a temple on the hills. While they were busy in puja inside the temple, Lokesh offered to operate a trip to Urdigere and six persons boarded the vehicle. The vehicle was going down at Arasin Tank Cross when the driver reportedly switched off the engine to save fuel and lost control over the vehicle. The police said Kadiraiah (30) and another man, aged around 29, died on the spot. Hanumantha (10) lost consciousness. Narasimhamurthy, Anita and Lakshmi from Narasimharajanagar were critically injured. The injured have been brought to the General Hospital here.
