WARANGAL, DEC. 4. Notwithstanding the claims about surplus land availability by naxal groups and AP Rythu Sangam, the district administration has been able to identify only 3,263 acres for distribution among landless poor on January 26. Revenue officials are finding difficult to identify land that is free of litigations. Teams of officials drawn from various Government agencies have identified 921 acres at Ghori Kothapally of Regonda mandal but it is in litigation with scores of people claiming ownership. Originally, the land was gifted by the Nizam Government to Makthadar (equivalent of revenue divisional officer), Sulaiman Ghori. Of the total of over 3,000 acres he got from the Nizam Government, he had filed for Urban Land Ceiling declaration for 1,500 acres while 1,100 acres was occupied by people.
Administration in a fix
As neither his descendants claimed the ownership nor the present occupants applied for regularisation before 1989, the district administration is in a fix. According to the Joint Collector, Syed Omer Jaleel, the district administration has written to the State Government to relax the norms.Similarly, officials have identified 6,000 acres of inam lands, which too are awaiting final verdict in various courts. The district administration has claimed that so far, the Government has assigned 96,000 acres under various schemes to weaker sections over the past few decades. However, officials are not clear about how much of the land was retained by beneficiaries.
