Best Bakery retrial: senior police official summoned

MUMBAI, DEC. 4. The Special Court, conducting the retrial in the Best Bakery carnage, today summoned a senior police official of Gujarat over absence of any valid documents with the policemen, who have accompanied Saira Sheikh, sister of prime witness Zahira Sheikh, to the city for her deposition.

Annoyed at the presence of three constables, who were not carrying any duty pass, the Special Judge, A.P. Thipsay, directed that the Superintendent of Police, S.D. Brahmbhatt (Gujarat), should appear before the court to answer how these three constables were sent with Saira without any duty pass which is a requirement.

Coming down heavily on the policemen, who had accompanied Saira, the court asked them who had given them orders to escort Saira and whether they were carrying a duty pass for the same. One of the constables told the court that he had been given oral orders by the SP (Gandhinagar) but they were not carrying documents for the same.
