Pat for State NCC Directorate

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUPATI, DEC. 4. The Director-General of National Cadet Corps (NCC), New Delhi, Mohan C. Bhandari, has appreciated the State Directorate for setting an example by recruiting the highest number of girl cadets into the movement.

Arriving to a conventional reception at the group headquarters here, Lt. Gen. Bhandari took the salute by the ceremonial guards and was later introduced to the officers by the group commander, S. Kumar.

Speaking to mediapersons later, he said Andhra Pradesh, the second largest directorate, had nine of the 95 groups with 66 of 775 units in the country. Girls numbered around 30 per cent of the 1.27-lakh cadets in the State, which is highest in the country against the national average of 15 per cent. He also had a word of praise for Tirupati group for enrolling 29 per cent of girls. He said the number would be raised to touch 33 per cent.

Youth exchange

On Youth Exchange programmes, by which select cadets are sent to 11 countries, Mr. Bhandari said more students would be roped in to be `young ambassadors' by having a tie-up with seven more countries -- USA, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Vision statement

The vision statement for the next five years was being prepared, which focussed extensively on weaponry upgradation, introduction of solo flying for cadets in gliders and training cadets in personality development before they appear for selections.

The Deputy D-G (AP), James Sebastian, accompanied Lt.Gen Bhandari.

Offers prayers

Mr. Bhandari prayed at the temple of Lord Venkateswara on Friday after a gap of ten years. Informing that Lord Narain (or Balaji) is the presiding deity of his Garhwal rifles regiment, Lt. Gen. Bhandari said he had prayed for the well-being of his cadets.
