House proceedings disrupted

By Our Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR, DEC. 4. The Opposition parties stalled the proceedings of the Orissa Assembly for the second day today demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik, over the Tangarpada mines case.

The legislators belonging to the Congress and other Opposition parties rushed to the well of the House, beating gongs and cymbals, and raised slogans against the Chief Minister.

The Leader of the Opposition, J.B. Patnaik, said the protest inside the Assembly will continue till the Chief Minister resigned.

He should do so as the High Court had indicted the State Government in the Tangarpada chromite mines case.

The Chief Minister shot back, saying that the Opposition should come forward and discuss the issue instead of disrupting the proceedings.

The High Court had recently quashed a decision of the Industrial Development Corporation of Orissa Limited (IDCOL) selecting Jindal Strips as its joint venture partner to develop the Tangarpada mines in Dhenkanal district.
