A new destination for Pink City tourists

By Our Special Correspondent

JAIPUR, DEC. 4 . Tourists coming to the Pink City have a new destination to taste the choicest delicacies of Rajasthani cuisine at an eatery dedicated to the traditional food of various regions of the desert State.

The cafeteria, "Gorbandh", has been launched here by the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation.

Exclusive joint

The exclusive eating joint has been opened at the RTDC's Gangaur Hotel, situated a stone's throw from the railway station.

The idea hit the tourism officials during the "Thali Utsav" (dish festival) organised here recently, in which there was an enormous demand for Rajasthani food both from the tourists and the local residents.

The Minister of State for Tourism, Usha Punia, inaugurating the new restaurant today, noted that tourists visiting Rajasthan were fascinated not just by the opulent culture and colourful traditions but also by its delicious food, such as Choorma-Dal-Bati and Kair-Sangri.

`Added attraction'

She hoped that the delicacies served in the eatery would be an added attraction for visitors.

"Gorbandh" - named after an ornament with which camels in the rural areas of the State are decorated during festive seasons - has an ambience of a Rajasthani home, with traditional adornments, images, lattices and layouts visible all around.

Waiters dressed in Rajasthani attire lend a conventional mood to the dining hall.

Ms. Punia said an attempt would be made to serve all major dishes from various regions, such as Mewar, Dhundhar, Marwar and Shekhawati, in the cafetaria.

"The range of food will be diversified shortly and one week each will be devoted to the delicacies from different regions," she said.

To begin with, two varieties of Thalis are being served in restaurant with the seating capacity of 40.

Central location

The State Tourism Secretary, Vinod Zutshi, said the eatery's central location in the Capital city would make it a popular joint in a very short time.

Another restaurant, "Gauri", offering Chinese and South Indian cuisines, is already functioning in the Gangaur Hotel's premises.
