Surgeon for Switzerland

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALORE, DEC. 4.DEC. 4.DEC. 4 Shantharam Shetty, noted orthopaedic surgeon and Dean of K.S. Hegde Medical Academy, has been invited to participate in the "A.O. Masters' Conference" being held in Davos, Switzerland, from December 4 to 10, says a press release.

The conference will discuss the latest techniques in the management of trauma, it adds.

Registration

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALORE, DEC. 4.DEC. 4.DEC. 4 Small-scale industries using substances such as carbon tetra chloride (CTC) or chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are required to register under the ODS (Regulation and Control) Amendment Rules, 2004, of the Environment Protection Act, 1986, says a press release from the Deputy Director in charge of the Small Industries Service Institute, Mangalore, P.V. Velayudhan.

The last dates for the registration of small-scale units engaged in manufacturing products containing CTC and CFCs have been extended to December 31, 2004, and July 19, 2007, respectively, the release adds.

Small units may register themselves with the Director, SISI, Bangalore. For registration forms, the units may contact SISI, Plot No L-11, Industrial Estate, Yeyyadi, Mangalore (Ph: 2217696 or 2217936).

Suicide

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALORE, DEC. 4.DEC. 4.DEC. 4 A thirty-year old man reportedly ended his life by consuming poison at his house at Kalladkka in Belthangady taluk on Friday.

The police gave the name of deceased as Giriyappa. He was admitted to the government hospital at Belthangady at about 11 a.m. where he died.

Sentenced

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALORE, DEC. 4.DEC. 4.DEC. 4 The First Additional District and Sessions Judge, Pradeep D. Waingankar, has sentenced Manjunath, a lineman, to one month imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 1,000 in connection with a case of power theft, according to a press release from the Police Inspector (Vigilance Squad), Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd., here on Saturday.

A squad raided the house of Manjunath on April 1, 2000, at Bondel and found out that the accused had taken an illegal power connection. The then Assistant Executive Engineer, B.P. Srinath, lodged a complaint with the Vigilance Squad police station.
