HYDERABAD, DEC. 5. Mallu Venkata Narasimha Reddy (74), member of the CPI (M) State Committee and a prominent leader involved in the party's struggle in Nalgonda district, died here today. He was ailing for sometime. Mr. Reddy was a veteran of the Telangana armed struggle. He is survived by wife, Mallu Swarajyam, two sons and a daughter. Ms. Swarajyam, vice-president of the Central committee, All-India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA), was also involved in the Telangana armed struggle.
Death condoled
The Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and the Telugu Desam Party, president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, condoled the death. In its condolence message issued in Delhi, the CPI(M) Polit Bureau said the communist movement in Andhra Pradesh had lost a towering leader.
`Irreparable loss'
The CPI (M) State secretary, B.V.Raghavulu, said the death was an "irreparable loss". In a statement, Mr. Raghavulu said Mr. Reddy had led some "dalams" during the armed struggle against the Nizam and was imprisoned several times.
Underground life
He also led underground life for about nine years when restrictions were imposed on the party and during the Emergency. The Andhra Pradesh United Teachers' Federation president, K. Jogaiah, the general secretary, S. Narayana, and the STFI president, D. Rami Reddy, also condoled the death of "comrade VN" as he was known. A press release issued by the federation said the leaders who were in Delhi for the "march to Parliament" rally observed two minutes silence at Parliament House.
