TUMKUR, DEC. 5. Doddarange Gowda, writer, today criticised the media for "not giving prominence" to cultural events. He was speaking after inaugurating Poornima Sahitya Mandira, a publication house established by the owners of Tumakuru Varthe, a district-level Kannada daily and Nagemugulu, a humour digest, in memory of Poornima, founder of the digest. He released two publications of the house, Swadeshi Chikitse by Rashmi R. Hebbur, and Muchidada Matu by Turuvekere Prasad. Mr. Doddarange Gowda said the media had been giving importance only to politics. People had lost interest in politics, but the media failed to take note of it. It was time that the media revised their priorities. "Culture must be on top of their agenda'', he added. Deploring the tendency of meritorious students seeking jobs abroad, he said the Centre should formulate a plan to check it. "Many scientists from India are working in the U.S., contributing towards the progress of that country. We must launch a campaign to bring them back," he said. Swami Veereshananda Saraswati of Sri Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Ashram, Tumkur, presided over the function.
