Insurgents, Army trade fire in Manipur
IMPHAL,
DEC. 5.
Heavy exchange of fire was reported today between insurgents and the Army personnel from the interior areas in Chandel district of Manipur. The encounter occurred at Phoilet and Hengkot areas near Manipur-Myanmar border early this morning. The number of casualtieswere not immediately known, defence sources said.
A statement issued by major separatist United National Liberation Front (UNLF) claimed that cadres of its armed wing, the Manipur People's Army (MPA), had killed at least 15 Army personnel and injured 14 in the encounter. However, the claim could not be confirmed by the defence sources. — PTI
