OLA (ADILABAD DT.), DEC. 5. The Assembly Speaker, K.R. Suresh Reddy, on Sunday said that a coordination committee would be formed to pursue the Basar IIT issue with the Union Government. The Speaker said, if necessary, he would be a member of the committee. It would comprise people's representatives, MLAs and Ministers, he said.
YSR to be briefed
Talking to newsmen after offering prayers at the Gnana Saraswati temple at Basar during his maiden visit to the district, he said the issue would be taken up in the coming Assembly session. He would also discuss the matter with the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, he added. "In case an IIT was not established at Basar, some other institution of similar importance would be established here," he opined.
Development plan
The idea of an educational institution of such importance at Basar was apt because of the presence of the unique Gnana Saraswati temple here. Mr. Reddy said a plan for comprehensive development of Basar was in operation and the temple town would be developed into a tourist spot.
Checkdam proposed
He also said that 50 acres of land was being acquired at Basar to construct a checkdam worth Rs. 90 lakhs. At Bhainsa, the Speaker addressed a meeting of partymen. He was also felicitated. Later, he inaugurated a school building at Ola village in Kuntala mandal. The building was constructed by the Gade Shanker Memorial Trust.
