NIZAMABAD, DEC. 5. The Government plans to extend the farm pond programme to the entire State, following its successful implementation in Faridpet village of Machereddy mandal. Addressing a public meeting at Ambaripet village in Domakonda mandal, the Minister for Information and Public Relations, Mohammad Ali Shabbir, said the farm ponds would help improve the groundwater table in the village. Reiterating that the Congress Government was committed to farmers' welfare and poverty alleviation, he said watershed construction would be promoted wherever it was needed.

He made it c lear that the question of going back on the supply of free power to the farm sector would not arise under any circumstances. The Minister earlier inaugurated additional classrooms built at a cost of Rs.12 lakhs on the Zilla Parishad High School premises. A Non-Resident Indian doctor settled in the United States, N. Prabhakar Rao, contributed Rs.5 lakhs for the construction of the additional classrooms. Mr. Shabbir Ali was all praise for the NRI for his philanthropy and called upon other NRIs from the district to come forward to liberally donate for improving amenities in the villages.
