Flash strike hits port operations
By Our Correspondent
KAKINADA,
DEC. 5.
Port workers, led by the Hindustan Mazdoor Sangh (HMS)-affiliated union, went on a flash strike on Sunday paralysing loading and unloading operations. Unrest among the workers over sharing of work at the deepwater port, which reached the climax following the decision of shipping companies to make payment to workers directly eliminating the union's role, led to the strike.
Rivalry among port workers for the past four months with the erstwhile wooden boat workers staking claim their share in handling cargo at the deepwater port and achieving success to some extent, did not subside.
