Italian devotee attempts suicide at Puttaparthi?
By Our Staff Reporter
ANANTAPUR,
DEC. 5.
An Italian devotee of Satya Saibaba, G. Luca (35), allegedly attempted suicide in Prashanti Nilayam at Puttaparthi on Thursday night. He is said to be mentally unsound.
He was admitted to the general hospital here with head injuries on Friday. Luca suffered the injuries when he allegedly banged his head against one of the gates. He was first admitted to the male ward but was later shifted to the prisoners' ward.
Patients of the prisoners' ward said he would some times run in the ward by taking off his clothes.
When asked, Luca said the injury was caused accidentally. "I would like to go back to Prashanti Nilayam if God (Saibaba) calls me. What is all happening to me is the will of God,'' he said.
Luca said he had first visited Puttaparthi three years ago and had been doing so every year since then. This year, he arrived in Puttaparthi before Saibaba's birthday.
The police registered an attempt-to-suicide case against him and said he was mentally ill.
