Waiting Hall inaugurated

HYDERABAD: A new waiting hall and a VIP lounge at Jadcherla Railway station was inaugurated by MP, M. Jagannath, on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Jagannath suggested to the railway authorities to construct a Foot Overbridge in the State and a Road Underbridge in the town at the earliest.

The Divisional Railway Manager, Hyderabad, Vandana Singhal, said that development works worth Rs. 1.25 crores were taken up to improve facilities at Jadcherla Railway Station.

Orientation classes

WARANGAL: The three-day orientation classes for English language teachers under aegis of English Language Teachers Association (ELTA) began here.

Speaking on the occasion ELTA president, B. Komuraiah, has said the first batch of school teachers recently completed their three month course in Spoken English being offered by the ELTA in association with the Regional Institute of English, South India, Bangalore.

BLiSc, BCJ exam

WARANGAL: The annual examinations of BLiSc and BCJ of School of Distance Learning and Continuing Education (SDLCE), Kakatiya University, would be held from December 19 and 20 respectively.

The SDLCE director, N. Lingamurty, said the examination would be held between 2 and 5 p.m. The practical examination for students of CLiSc would be held from December 21 to January 2.

bio-diesel usage

KARIMNAGAR: The Ministers— M. Satyanarayana Rao, Md. Fariduddin and V. Lakshmikantha Rao--inspected the bio-diesel usage exhibition organised by the Prakasham Krushi Vignana centre here on Sunday.

The Ministers inspected the bio-diesel plants and travelled in a vehicle which was run on bio-diesel in the Collectorate complex. They also observed the functioning of a tractor and generator run on bio-diesel.

Blood donation camp held

KHAMMAM: A blood donation camp was organised by the Rotary Club of "in-Bhadra" at Sarapaka village today.

In all 54 units of blood were collected at the camp. The camp was inaugurated by K. K. Sashi Kumar, General Manager (P&A), ITC Bhadrachalam.

YSR pays tributes to Ambedkar

HYDERABAD: The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Sunday paid glowing tributes to B.R. Ambedkar on the eve of his death anniversary.

In a message, Dr. Reddy said Ambedkar had come to occupy a place in the country's history by stint of hard work with determination and nationalistic spirit. "He worked in public life with high ideals and dedicated his life for the uplift of the poor in society."

The Chief Minister said the best tribute to Ambedkar would be to dedicate oneself to follow his footsteps in creating an ideal and modern society.

RTC union seeks recovery

for damage of buses

HYDERABAD: The RTC Transport Mazdoor Sangh has appealed to the Government to apply the Revenue Recovery Act to all those who damage RTC buses during bandhs and agitations by political parties, social organisations and religious groups.

The sangh general secretary has said in a release that it has become a practice to damage RTC buses and the organisation suffered a loss of Rs. 40 lakhs recently on account of it. "It is time the RR Act is clamped on all those who resort to the act of damaging RTC buses," he said.

TDP men join Congress

KARIMNAGAR: In a major development, hundreds of Telugu Desam Party activists from the Kamalapur Assembly segment joined the Congress under the leadership of the PCC media cell coordinator, T. Sammi Reddy, in the presence of the Minister for Minorities, Mohd. Fariduddin, the Minister for Endowments, M. Satyanarayana Rao, and the DCC president, D. Sridhar, here on Sunday.

The TDP activists, including six sarpanches and 10 MPTC members, came in various modes of transport from Kamalapur and Jammikunta mandals to Karimnagar town to join the Congress.

S.M. Krishna visits Puttaparthi

ANANTAPUR: The Maharashatra Governor-designate and former Chief Minister of Karnataka, S.M. Krishna, on Sunday visited Puttaparthi for taking the blessings of Sathya Saibaba before taking the charge of his new assignment.

Accompanied by his family members, Mr. Krishna arrived in a flight from Bangalore at 7 a.m. He had a special darshan of Saibaba in Prashanti Nilayam. He also participated in the `bhajan' programme in Sai Kulwanth hall and left for Bangalore at 10 a.m.

Earlier, on his arrival, Mr. Krishna was welcomed by the secretary of Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, S. Chakravarthy.

900 employees from State

for `chalo Delhi' rally

HYDERABBAD: About 900 State Government employees will participate in the `Chalo Parliament' rally to be organised on December 7 in response to a call given by the All-India State Government Employees' Federation.

B.V. Subba Rao, president of Andhra Pradesh NGOs' Association, will lead the delegation. The rally is being organised to press the demand for securing the right to go on strike.

In a statement here on Sunday, Mr. Rao said the Government should strive for solving the problems of employees.

Guidelines for power staff

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh power utilities are exploring various alternatives to rationalise tariffs to some segments of domestic consumers.

Rachel Chatterjee, Chairperson and Managing Director, APTransco, in an open letter to 45,300 employees stated that continued and sustained effort by them to achieve internal efficiency would lead to not only rationalisation of tariff, but also improve customer service. The utilities finalised guidelines for employees to improve productivity and accountability to 1.6 crore consumers in the State.

According to a press release, she said availability of expected hydel generation of 5,980 million units in the next financial year and maintaining the existing fuel prices would mainly contribute to achieve this major objective.

Pilgrim dies of heart attack

PATHANAMTHITTA: A 65-year-old pilgrim, Suryanarayana Reddy from Bandamedappalli village in the State, died of a massive heart attack at Sannidhanam on Sunday.

According to health officials at Sabarimala, the pilgrim died at the Sree Ayyappa Health Amenities Society (SAHAS) Cardiology Centre.

Held on cheating charge

KARIMNAGAR: The special branch police arrested a person for allegedly cheating two persons by promising them lucrative jobs in the Gulf at Jagtial on Sunday.

According to the special cell SI, Ganpathi Jadav, the accused, Md. Sabdar, along with three others had advertised in local dailies promising jobs in Gulf countries. Attracted by the offer, Md. Rafeeq and Umaruddin of Jagtial approached the `fake travel agent' in Hyderabad.

After medical examination and collecting Rs. 42,000 from each person, they promised visas only to dupe the two persons. Based on a complaint, the police arrested the agent.

Weaver dies of starvation?

NELLORE: P. Gopalaiah, A 45-year-old handloom worker of Tikkavarppadu village in the district, died on Saturday reportedly due to starvation and ill-health.

It is learnt that his family has been without work since long. Gopalalaih suffered a heart attack in the night and died on way to hospital. He is survived by wife and a daughter.

Lowest night temperature

remains at 11 degree C

HYDERABAD: The State's lowest nigh temperature remained at 11 degree Celsius for the second day on Sunday. It was recorded by Hyderabad and Nizamabad.

Dry weather prevailed in the State. The minimum temperature came down at one or two places and was below normal in the State. Mainly dry weather will prevail in the State on Monday.
