DEHRA DUN, DEC. 5 .Several leaders of the ruling Congress have urged the party president, Sonia Gandhi, to ensure the early fulfilment of the election promise to rename Uttaranchal as Uttarakhand. The party had during the last Vidhan Sabha elections promised that it would change the name of the State as per the people's aspirations to Uttarakhand if it came to power at the Centre. "Since the issue is highly emotional and over six months have passed since the Congress- led Government assumed office in Delhi, it would be in the larger interests of the party to fulfil the promise through a legislation in Parliament'', Dhirendra Pratap, State general secretary, said.
